ABOUT US | Emmaus Abbey and Centre for Christian Counseling

“Caring for People, and Connecting Them to Christ.”

The Abbey, known as Emmaus Centre for Christian Counseling™ is celebrating our 8th year here in Knoxville area.  Emmaus Centre has been operating for over 25 years through out the United States and overseas.  Dr. Travis and his wife served as missionaries overseas in miliatry and Dr. Travis as a US Army Chaplain for 24 years of that service equipping men and women to live a more full Christian life as individuals or as married couples.  We give God all the glory, honor, and praise for this milestone.  Our mission is to equip Christian couples, those seeking emotional support and others dealing with habitual sin and addiction problems.  God has provided Dr. Travis and his wife with the experience to deal with families struggling to survive the problems of living life.

Dr. Travis has over 35 years of professional experience in Individual, Couple, Emotional and Marriage & Family counseling. He was a senior clinician in the military chaplaincy and practiced as a clinical therapist on active duty and as a Christian pastoral counselor.  He served in Army as a Chaplain in the Behavioral Mental Health field and provided Chaplaincy and healthcare services to military men and women and their families.   He has seen both sides of the fields of counseling.

The Counseling Ministry here at Emmaus Abbey Church Knoxville is a non-denominational Christ-Centered ministry founded on Galatians 2:20, Ephesians 4:11-16, 2 Cor. 1:3-7, and 2Tim 2:2. The four offices of the church apostles, prophets, evangelists, and pastors/teachers, are given for the purpose of "equipping" of the saints for the work of service."  We are all to minister to one another in love, our ministry being to lead others to knowledge of the Son of God and to the possession of the fullness of Jesus Christ.

Emmaus Centre for Christian Counseling (EC™) is a 501(c)(3) tax-exempt organization, marketplace ministry, and educational institution. We specialize in spiritual and Christian psychological care.  The civilian counseling ministry was established, by Dr. Brett Travis, in 1989 after graduating from Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in Louisville, Kentucky.  The counseling was so successful in military it grew into a full time church ministry which is now Emmaus Centre for Christian Counseling, Knoxville.  Our goal at Emmaus Centre for Christian Counseling is teaching, preaching, educating counselors, out-reach, discipleship and reaching toward helping those who are under served, unemployed, and under-employed receive faith-based counseling, life coaching, and spiritual care.
